Israel Retaliates, Kills Two Palestinian Militants and Warns of Powerful Attack

The Israel Air Force killed two Palestine terrorists and injured 35 others in an air strike in southern Gaza strip Monday morning.?

The air strike was in retaliation to the firing of four rockets by the militants from Gaza to Be'er Sheva in southern Israel.

Two of the rockets from Gaza were intercepted and taken down by the Iron Dome system. One rocket had hit a school that was empty while the other rocket struck a chicken coop in Moshav Carmia and damaged several other buildings and vehicles, reported Haaretz.com.

The IAF strike killed 24-year-old Islamic Jihad leader Hamdan Abu-Mutlak and another terrorist, who was in the final stages of launching a missile to Israel from the Gaza strip. The IAF strikes also hit a weapon storage site and five rocket launching sites.

The IAF strike since Friday has killed as many as 20 Palestinians including civilians. Meanwhile, Islamic Jihad Groups and other militant organizations have fired more than hundred and fifty missiles towards Israel and the Israel's Iron Dome systems took 43 of them down.

The current situation is likely to continue for a couple of days more though both the sides don't expect any massive ground assault on either side.? But Israel has warned if the situation prolongs, it will not hesitate to take a strong action.

"Israel is not keen to see an escalation, Israel is not keen to hurt innocents -Israel is absolutely opposed to this," said Interior Minister Eli Yishai, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's eight-member inner council.

"For now, it (fighting) is on this kind of scale. But if it will prove protracted, then without a doubt there will be a powerful, painful blow will be so that this will not continue," he told Israel's Army Radio, according to a Reuters report.

The latest round of attacks has disrupted the normal life in southern Israel. Many schools remained closed Sunday and Monday.

HTC Golf picture leaks: HTC Explorer sequel incoming?

The dust from Mobile World Congress has barely settled and already we?re hearing rumours of the next HTC phone, the HTC Golf.

EXIF data from a leaked picture points to two things; the name (or at least a working title) HTC Golf and a camera with a 3-megapixel sensor.

PocketNow?s informant hasn?t been able to furnish us with other details but guesswork points to some budget-friendly spec such as a 3.5-inch screen, 480x320 (HVGA) resolution, 800MHz processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. PocketNow's got a very good source at HTC in the US (and has been right about plenty before) so we're inclined to take a smaller than usual pinch of salt here.

HTC is declining to comment on any rumour and speculation of course, so do season this rumour as you will.

At a glance, a lot of the specs of the HTC Golf chime with those of the HTC Explorer; 3.5-inch screen, 3-megapixel camera, etc - so it looks like another wallet-friendly wonder is on the horizon. Hopefully we?ll see Sense 4 included along with Ice Cream Sandwich.

What with Samsung unleashing an armada of low-end phones already, we were half expecting HTC to come up with something outside the holy trinity of its HTC One series. HTC declined to comment on rumour and speculation when we asked for more info on this. But whatever it?s going to be called (we?d assume Volkswagen might have something to say about anyone using the ?Golf? name) it looks like there?s something budget-level from HTC coming in the summer.

Written By: Nicholas Jacobellis?on?March 12, 2012 4 Comments

The world over the past decade has altered motivation from original ways of doing business to a new trend. The internet has impacted the ballgame, and changed it promptly. Whole new industries have burst onto the scene with the introduction of social media agencies such as Facebook and Twitter. The world of the online marketing firm has grown, and the use of any social media agency to get the good word spread in today?s economy is vital.

Just see at what is beginning right now around the world. More people have access to the internet and cell phones than they do access to toilets and clean water. It just goes to show where the people of the world are placing their main concerns. The internet is the most powerful aspect of many of these peoples? lives, and the numbers show it.

Facebook alone could become the third largest country in the world sitting at over 800 million individual users. That is a lot of people to be on onesocial media agency platform. Facebook is massive, and more and more companies are using the opportunity to get onto Facebook than any other social media outlet. MySpace crumbled in the wake of Facebook.

Even the mass of Twitter alone is excellent, the public relations platform boasts over 200 million individual users, and the website is widening day by day. Just think about that, Twitter could also become its own country. With that thought alone, it would be insanity for companies to not be using a marketing firm to help them get onto these various websites, and to get their name and message out there.

The world has been modified drastically, and nothing on a measure such as this has been noticeable since the industrial revolution. It?s just impressive how it can change a whole people culture, and the introduction of social media into the mix has changed the marketing world forever. The future is the internet, whether or not you like it.

Feds stop funding Texas women's health program

By msnbc.com news services

AUSTIN, Texas -- The federal government will withdraw funding for a Texas program providing more than 100,000 poor women with birth control and other health services because Planned Parenthood clinics are not allowed to participate, a U.S. Health and Human Services spokeswoman said on Friday.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the decision in Houston on Friday, prompting a furious response from Texas Governor Rick Perry, who called it an "egregious federal overreach."

At the heart of the dispute between the administration of President Barack Obama and Texas is the divisive issue of abortion.

Texas begins enforcing strict anti-abortion sonogram law

The Texas legislature last year voted to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood because the network of women's health clinics performs abortions. The federal government says that this violates rules of Medicaid, the health program for the poor.

Some 130,000 low-income Texas women who get free exams and contraceptives through Medicaid could lose those benefits as a result of the dispute.

The program provides free birth control and annual exams to women of reproductive age who do not qualify for the regular Medicaid program for the poor. The federal government pays 90 percent of the cost and Texas puts up about $4 million a year.

Wisconsin, North Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana all have joined Texas trying to block Planned Parenthood from receiving taxpayer money in the last year. Several other states, including Ohio, Oklahoma and New Hampshire, are considering similar moves.

'Politically motivated'
While public funds do not pay for abortions, critics of Planned Parenthood argue that hiring the organization to provide family planning to poor women helps the organization stay afloat and thus indirectly supports abortion services.

The Texas funding cut prompted Planned Parenthood to shut down 11 clinics in the state.

Perry said the decision by the Obama administration was "politically motivated," and said it was an affront that Sebelius had not informed the state of Texas before announcing the move to the press.

After touring a hospital in Houston Friday, Sebelius said the state law violates federal Medicaid regulations that require women be allowed to choose where they go for health care. Federal funds flowed to Texas under a waiver, but "we plan to let Texas know that that waiver will not be extended," Sebelius said.

The money will be phased out so women have time to find alternative care, she said.

The state was warned that implementing the law would jeopardize federal funding, and Texas chose not to immediately enforce it when it was passed, Sebelius added.

"They knew ... they are not allowed to deny women the right to choose," Sebelius said. "Women would be losing their doctor, their medical home, their choice."

Stephanie Goodman, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, said money to pay for the program would be diverted from others that are under budget - though she didn't offer specifics. If that doesn't cover the costs, she said, the state would increase its deficit to pay for the services because officials believe that if low-income women don't have access to birth control, the birth rate would rise and cost the state another $57 million in maternity bills.

The abortion fight is the latest of a string of disputes between Obama's Democratic administration and the Republican-dominated Texas state government. The two sparred last year over disaster aid for Texas after devastating wildfires and environmental regulations Texas opposes.

In US election year, Palestinians sidelined

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) ? President Barack Obama has told the Palestinians to sit tight during a U.S. election year, while holding out the promise of a serious push for Palestinian statehood if he wins a second term, the Palestinian foreign minister said Friday.

A U.S. State Department spokeswoman insisted Washington remains engaged, though U.S officials, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the diplomacy, said the peace process is bogged down and prospects for resuming even low-level exploratory talks are slim.

It may be politically risky for Abbas to be seen as just marking time until November.

The Palestinian public is increasingly impatient with deadlock on all fronts, and Abbas could score points by reconciling with his longtime rival Hamas. But an alliance with the Islamic militants, who seized control of the Gaza Strip from Abbas' Palestinian Authority in 2007, could upset the U.S. and hurt a statehood bid later. Israel has already warned that it won't negotiate a statehood deal if Abbas forges a coalition with an unreformed Hamas.

For now, Abbas appears to have his hands full just keeping the Palestinian issue from fading away ? or being steamrolled by internal American politics.

The Palestinians have watched in dismay as Republican candidates, eager to please Jewish donors and voters, appeared to compete over who is more pro-Israel: At one point Newt Gingrich, backed financially by an ardently Zionist Jewish billionnaire, called the Palestinians "an invented people." Obama himself struck what was perceived as a pro-Israel tone in recent weeks.

The challenge goes beyond the U.S. election. The Palestinians' traditional Arab allies are preoccupied with the Arab Spring uprisings transforming the region. Europe is struggling with a painful euro zone crisis. And there is mounting concern about a possible Israel-Iran war over Tehran's suspected attempts to obtain nuclear weapons.

The Iran issue dominated the White House meeting between Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week, serving as a reminder to the Palestinians that the world has little time for them right now.

The Palestinians knew what they were in for as the U.S. headed into the campaign, Riad Malki, the Palestinian foreign minister, said in an interview.

"Everybody was telling us, including the Americans, 'don't expect that much from us during the election year because the president will be focusing on how to be re-elected, and in order to do so, he should really shift his attention ... to other issues,'" Malki said.

Asked whether Abbas holds out hope that Obama ? if re-elected and freed from some of his domestic political shackles ? will push hard for serious negotiations on Palestinian statehood, Malki said: "They (the Americans) told us so."

He said the Obama administration asked Abbas to be patient until then.

State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland said Friday that "we completely reject that characterization both of our views and the message" to Palestinians and Israelis.

On Monday, the Quartet of Mideast mediators ? the U.S., the European Union, the U.N. and Russia ? will meet in New York to review peace efforts, but is not expected to issue a statement or come up with a new initiative.

During more than three years in office, Obama failed to restart negotiations that broke off in 2008. At the time, Abbas and Netanyahu's predecessor, Ehud Olmert, exchanged initial border proposals, but ultimately failed to close the gaps before Olmert stepped down amid corruption allegations.

Abbas says he will only negotiate with Netanyahu if Israel freezes settlement building on occupied lands and recognizes the pre-1967 war lines as the starting point for talks on the borders of a future Palestine. In that war, Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, the territories the Palestinians want for their state.

Netanyahu insists all disputes be addressed in negotiations, including settlements.

As a next move, Abbas plans to send a letter to Netanyahu in coming days, holding the Israeli prime minister responsible for the failure to relaunch serious negotiations, Malki said. Copies of the letter will be sent to foreign leaders and Mideast mediators.

Palestinian officials said the letters are a cry for attention. "It's a loud shout, to say we cannot continue like this," said Wasel Abu Yousef of the PLO Executive Committee.

Malki said the letter will not contain a deadline for an Israeli response.

Earlier this week, Jordan's foreign minister urged Abbas to avoid language that could be seen as an ultimatum, a Palestinian official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss internal discussions.

Abbas and his aides will meet after a certain period to review Israel's response to the letter, if there is one, Malki said. "It is up to us to decide later how to proceed ... based on the reaction from the Israeli leadership and based on the international community's reaction to that," he said.

The options include reviving last year's stalled attempt to win full U.N. membership through the Security Council or seeking the U.N. General Assembly's recognition of Palestine as a non-member observer state, Malki said. He emphasized that nothing has been decided.

Malki said the Palestinian leadership would act responsibly, and appeared to rule out desperate measures in coming months, such as dissolving their self-rule government in parts of the West Bank. Palestinian officials have also ruled out a return to large-scale violence.

Abbas is under pressure at home to end the Palestinian political split, which has weakened their statehood claim. After a breakthrough last month, in which Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal agreed that Abbas could lead an interim unity government until general elections are held, both sides have hit the brakes.

Hamas leaders in Gaza lambasted Mashaal for making the deal without consulting with them. And Abbas now says he won't pull together a transition government of politically independent technocrats unless he can get Israeli assurances that the elections can be held in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem.

Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said this week that Netanyahu would not stand in the way of Palestinian elections. Malki said Abbas has sought, but not received clear Israeli assurances through intermediaries.

Palestinian analyst George Giacaman said both Abbas and Hamas are reluctant to move forward because they are unwilling to break with their traditional allies. "If they reconcile completely, the first thing the U.S Congress will do is not just to stop aid to the Palestinians, but declare the PLO a terror organization if Hamas joins," he said.

Malki said Abbas is moving cautiously.

"We are not going to rush things," he said.

Strong Grip: Unexpected interaction between organic semiconductors

ScienceDaily (Mar. 9, 2012) ? J?lich physicists have discovered an unexpectedly strong bond between organic layers. Such structures are still puzzling scientists throughout the world. These structures form the basis for novel electronic components made from organic semiconductors that are now increasingly used in smart phones and television sets.

The results have been published in the journal Physical Review Letters.

Organic semiconductors are cheap to produce, can be flexibly shaped and are relatively insensitive to external influences. In principle, they could in future even be simply printed on plastic foils. They are already widely used as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), particularly in smart phones, because they consume so little power. Nevertheless, the electronic properties of these complex materials still remain largely unknown. Researchers are particularly interested in the interfaces because component performance decisively depends on how well contacts can be created with other organic and metallic conductors. The stronger the bond, the better electrons can pass from one material to the other -- and the more power or light can be produced by solar cells or light-emitting diodes.

However, organic molecules do not usually form such strong bonds. "Scientists have assumed that organic materials only interact among themselves via weak van der Waals forces. Only in contact with certain metals do they display stronger bonding known as chemisorption," says Dr. Christian Kumpf from Forschungszentrum J?lich. "For the first time, we have been able to demonstrate such chemisorption between two organic layers, which we applied to a silver crystal by chemical vapour deposition." Such sandwich-like structures are also found in OLEDs and usually consist of several organic layers between two metallic conductors.

For the analysis, Kumpf and his colleagues made use of PTCDA, an organic semiconductor material, and copper phthalocyanine, which is frequently used as a dye. They then investigated the layers, which are only one molecule thick, using various highly specialized measuring techniques. By means of ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), the researchers were able to show that a change is transferred between the organic semiconductors. They also used scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) to demonstrate that the arrangement of the molecules is transferred to the next layer in the order of the strong bonding, almost like a photocopy.

It has been known for some time that certain metals can establish such strong interactions with an organic semiconductor. In his earlier work, Kumpf himself contributed to research in this field, even before moving to Prof. Stefan Tautz's group in J?lich in 2008. "What is new is that the charge transfer takes place between these organic materials, that was rather unexpected. These findings will undoubtedly be exploited in the development of new organic semiconductors," says Tautz, director at the J?lich Peter Gr?nberg Institute (PGI-3: Functional Nanostructures at Surfaces). There is, however, still a long way to go since industrial manufacturing processes and laboratory requirements are quite different; the latter being more concerned with reproducibility and precision.

FBI probing AU's Ward for point shaving

(AP Photo/Dave Martin)

(AP) ? Federal authorities are investigating suspended Auburn point guard Varez Ward for alleged point shaving involving in at least two games this season, Yahoo Sports reported Thursday.

The report cited anonymous sources and said the FBI began an investigation in late February centering on losses to Alabama on Feb. 7 and Arkansas on Jan. 25.

NCAA officials say they are "very concerned" by the allegations and have been in contact with the school and federal investigators since the issue arose last month.

"The NCAA takes any allegation of point shaving very seriously because sports wagering threatens two of our core principles ? the well-being of student-athletes and the very integrity of intercollegiate sport," the NCAA said in a written statement Thursday. "As allegations of point shaving, if proven, are also potential federal crimes, the NCAA will defer action until any process with the FBI has concluded."

Ward and guard Chris Denson were both suspended before a Feb. 25 game against Arkansas, but Denson returned for the next game. Denson was questioned and cleared of involvement in point shaving, the report said.

"Auburn officials were made aware of a rumor regarding an allegation two weeks ago and immediately reported it to the FBI, the NCAA and the SEC," Auburn said in a statement Thursday. "Because of the nature of the allegation, Auburn is not in a position to make any further comment on the situation."

The report said a player reported concerns to an assistant coach in late February.

Auburn coach Tony Barbee has said only that Ward and Denson violated team rules. Ward didn't play in the final three games of the regular season or travel with the team to New Orleans for the Southeastern Conference tournament, where the Tigers open with Thursday night's game against Mississippi.

Yahoo Sports reported that other Auburn players were questioned about whether Ward tried to get them to participate in the alleged point shaving.

Ward, a Texas transfer, has averaged 9.0 points a game and leads the Tigers in assists.

Ward scored three points and had six turnovers in the 68-50 loss to Alabama, playing 17 minutes. Vegas Insider said Alabama was favored by five points.

Ward lasted only 19 seconds after coming off the bench in the 56-53 defeat against Arkansas before crumpling to the floor. Barbee later said Ward took a knee to the right leg he had injured early in his sophomore season with the Longhorns, when he ruptured his quadriceps tendon on a dunk during pregame warmups. Auburn still covered the 9?-point spread.

In between those games, Ward had his hottest streak of the season. He scored 53 points in a three-game stretch, including 24 against Mississippi State.

Ward has not commented publicly since his suspension. His last Twitter post was on Feb. 24 when he tweeted, "Can't win for losing smh" (shaking my head). It was the last in a series of posts that day, the first saying that his knee was "hurting bad."
