Intel wants your next PC to be like a Kinect

12 hrs.

During their press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on Monday, Intel executives placed an emphasis on perceptual computing. They want your next computer to have "senses."

Computers might gain these senses?? the ability to offer gesture, voice, and ?face recognition???thanks to a small accessory or by having the necessary components built in from the very start.

Intel's?face recognition technology could be used to unlock devices just as some existing features might, but it will supposedly track more facial features and do so in a way that'll avoid the typical weaknesses of such tools (meaning that you shouldn't be able to unlock someone's computer using a photo of him or her).?

The gesture recognition shownby Intel was quite impressive. It works within a 3-D environment and all 10 of your fingers can be tracked individually. In a game that was demonstrated, this allowed a user to grab and drop items with ease. This gesture recognition technology reminded us a great deal of that which was previously demonstrated by Leap Motion?and so we are quite eager to take it for a trial run. Intel's voice recognition doesn't seem like it's anything beyond natural language voice-input, but we will certainly see how it stacks up against Apple's?Siri and Google's voice recognition tools.

All of the technologies shown off by Intel already exist, in some form or another, in various gadgets. But the company is bent on bringing the best of these features together in a seamless way which can be incorporated into your daily computing experience. And considering the weight which Intel can throw around when it comes to dealing with?computer?manufacturers, we wouldn't be all that shocked if it pulled it off.?

While we could see an accessory which could add all these features [or senses] to computers within the year, there's no word on how long it might take Intel to get all the right components built directly into the devices.

Samsung's Evernote-ready T9000 smart-fridge hands-on

Nestled in the corner of its home appliances stand, Samsung's upgraded T9000 fridge-freezer stood imposingly next to last year's model, but the major differences here are an expanded touchscreen and improved app selection -- including Evernote integration. We had a few pokes at the interface, which also includes a read-only Twitter client and Epicurious access and it's relatively responsive -- if not up to the standard of your favorite tablet. But given that it's Evernote, your grocery demands / last ditch pleas for milk can easily be hooked up to any device capable of running the popular app. This particular appliance also includes an exchangeable quadrant that can act as either a fridge or a freezer. Unfortunately, Samsung isn't telling us anything when it comes to prices or launch dates, but it'd be a shame to see this gigantic WiFi fridge turn into vaporware. We've got a tour of the T9000 uploading -- it'll be up soon.

U.N. chief "disappointed" by Assad's speech on Syria crisis

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon voiced disappointment on Monday with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's rejection of peace talks with his enemies made in a defiant weekend speech that his opponents described as a renewed declaration of war.

Ban was "disappointed that the speech by President Bashar al Assad on 6 January does not contribute to a solution that could end the terrible suffering of the Syrian people," U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said of the president's Sunday speech at the Damascus Opera House.

"The speech rejected the most important element of the Geneva Communique of 30 June 2012, namely a political transition and the establishment of a transitional governing body with full executive powers that would include representatives of all Syrians," Nesirky told reporters.

He said Ban "reaffirms his long-held view that there is no military solution to the conflict in Syria."

Ban and U.N.-Arab League peace mediator Lakhdar Brahimi "continue to work towards a political solution to the conflict through a political transition that includes the establishment of a transitional government and the holding of free and fair elections under the auspices of the United Nations," he added.

Nesirky said that Brahimi met on Sunday with the president of the Syrian National Coalition, Moaz Alkhatib, and was planning to meet with the prime minister and foreign minister of Qatar on Monday. On Tuesday, Brahimi will meet with Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.

Brahimi is also working hard on a "possible meeting" with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and U.S. Undersecretary of State William Burns, Nesirky said.

So far, a year of intensive U.N.-Arab League diplomacy has failed to make a dent on the war in Syria, which has claimed more than 60,000 lives, according to the United Nations.

Brahimi is now concentrating on healing the rift between Russia and the United States on Syria as the 21-month-old conflict there becomes increasingly gruesome and sectarian, U.N. officials and diplomats say. That rift has left the U.N. Security Council in a deadlock.

The crux of their disagreement is whether Assad should go now, as the rebels, Washington and the Europeans want, or later, as Moscow would prefer, after a period with a transitional leadership that could include members of Assad's government.

Russia has repeatedly said it is not wedded to Assad, although it has refused to abandon him. Moscow and Beijing have vetoed three U.N. Security Council resolutions condemning Assad's assault on what began as peaceful protests in March 2011 but eventually became a full-blown civil war.

Look At This Wicked Technics Inspired Motorcycle

In case you haven't picked up on it by now: Anything goes at CES. But at least this collaboration between Technics and custom bike builder Roland Sands is easy on the eyes and ears. Inspired by the Technics DH1-1200 and SL-1200MK2 turntables, Sands reworked a Harley Davidson Iron 883 and I'd say he nailed it. I don't like Harleys at all but I am a fan of Sands, so I'd be down with this ride. And if you're wondering who that Billy Ray Cyrus lookalike in the video is, it's Andy Bell of Nitro Circus fame. Featured Game Review: Hot Speed | Android Headlines - Android ...

hot speed

For as long as video games have been around there have always been racing games. It seems that the human race is just obsessed with speed and thankfully, through the medium of video games we can get our fix of speed without hitting the road. A lot of rang titles for Android are going after the console market and trying to be as complete as possible but every now and then comes along a title that brings a unique spin with it. Hot Speed is one of those titles and its simplistic gameplay will not only keep you coming back for more but have you tearing your hat out with pleasant frustration. Read on to see why.

Description: Hot Speed is a game in which you?re place on a multi-lane highway and you just can?t wait for this traffic to get out of your way. As impatient as you are, you?re given your choice of a high-speed car to get past all of this traffic and get where you want to go as quick as you can. There are a number of different vehicles to avoid and the longer you can last, the higher score gets. Read on to find out just how to get up to speed with this new racer.

How it Works: To hit the road and burn some rubber, you will first need to go ahead and download Hot Speed from the Play Store?and then you can go ahead and start burning some rubber. It?s an easy to get started with the game and after that you can start playing.

2013-01-05 11.12.37

First of all let?s go and select a car, more of them are available to you as you progress through the game:

2013-01-05 11.12.47

?

Then it?s off to burn some rubber, the aim of the game is to avoid traffic on the road and last as long as you can on an increasingly crowded stretch of road, it?s a lot of fun and gets really addictive the more you play.

20130107100034

It starts off nice and slow, with little to no traffic but, the more distance you cover, the more likely it is for you to come across masses of traffic that takes some real negotiating. Dodging slow-moving cars is one thing but, then there?s the trucks?

20130107100733

Yes, that?s right. Trucks are not only slow-moving and awkward to dodge but they then explode, taking other vehicles out as well. You?ve got to be extra careful in avoiding these guys as they can cause some serious problems. Each time you pass a car ? or truck ? you gain 20 coins and these coins add up to allow you to get newer cars that come with more than one life, allowing you to survive a crash before it?s game over.

20130107102209

Each time you complete a run, you?re given a score and you can see how well you did:

20130107105313

Opinion: Being able to play a game with one hand is really quite nice, it allows for easy gameplay, quite literally anywhere. It?s also very challenging to try to avoid traffic at such high speeds with only one hand, it can get pretty crazy at times. It?s a whole lot of fun and it?s really quite addictive as well, especially when you play enough to unlock some more cars, then it gets really addictive.

Ratings

  • Speed (5/5) ? It?s a racing game, right? Of course it?s got to be fast, and Hot Speed was very snappy, indeed!
  • Features (4/5) ? Hot Speed might only be a game where you keep on truckin? but there are a few cars and the added benefit of it being super addictive to play.
  • Theme (4/5) ? Graphics aren?t fantastic here but they do look very nice and cars swerve and sound nice and meaty, too.
  • Overall (4/5) ? If simple, addictive gameplay sound appealing to you then you can?t do much better than Hot Speed, it?s got everything going for it and if you like cars as well, then there?s mostly no reason for you not to try this game.

Pros

  • Good-looking graphics with good sound effects.
  • Coins system encourages you to come back, time and time again.
  • Multiple choices for cars spices up the game a little bit.
  • Playing Hot Speed with one hand is easy to do and a lot of fun.

Cons

  • Starting from the beginning each and every time grows tedious.
  • Barely glancing a vehicle will result in a crash.

Conclusion: For those looking for a simple game to play with good graphics and some fast-paced action, then Hot Speed is definitely a game you should try out. It?s a lot of fun to play and it?s easy to pick up and play on the go which is something we all want when you?re out. Not only is the game good but, it?s really addictive, even as I was reviewing the game I found myself spending more time trying my best to get the high score, it?s a great sense of achievement when you weave your car through a teeny-tiny gap and then boost up to full speed to gain even more distance. It?s a great game to try out and one that?doesn?t?ask much of you in return for having a boat load of fun.

Three Mistakes that could Wreck Your Car Accident Personal Injury ...

Print Page

Motor vehicle accidents, car accidents, motorcycle accidents, and trucking accidents are the source of many personal injury and wrongful death claims and lawsuits every year.? Unfortunately, even the strongest personal injury cases can be thrown off course by a Florida negligence law concept known as comparative fault, which says that where more than one person caused the results of an accident, each one will pay only for his or her percentage of fault.? Even if someone else was at fault in causing your personal injuries from a car accident, you may not be able to collect, if you were not following basic safety laws designed to protect you.

In a typical personal injury case based on an auto accident in which someone else?s negligence was clearly a cause, here are three major Florida comparative fault mistakes that might reduce the award you could receive in compensation for damages like lost wages, medical expenses, or pain and suffering:

1.???? Not wearing your seatbelt.

Florida seatbelt laws require all passengers in the front seats and all passengers under age 18 to wear seatbelts or appropriate child restraints, to protect passengers from injury in accidents.? In one Tampa-area accidental death recently reported, a Shady Hills man died on Christmas morning, after being ejected from his vehicle in a rollover accident.? He was not wearing a seatbelt, which likely would have kept him inside the vehicle, where his injuries might not have been so severe.

This accident could have been someone else?s fault.? For example, a hit-and-run driver could have caused the accident or it might have resulted from a manufacturer?s defect that caused his vehicle to malfunction.? Nevertheless, any damages awarded to this young man?s estate in a personal injury lawsuit might be reduced by a percentage, based on his non-use of the seatbelt.

2.???? Speeding.

Even if your Tampa car wreck is caused directly by someone else?s careless driving, speeding on your part could diminish any damages you would otherwise receive for personal injuries or wrongful death.? Those defending against a Tampa personal injury lawsuit would claim that your excessive speed contributed to the severity of your wreck and compensation for your injuries could be reduced by your percentage of fault in the matter.

Driving too fast for conditions is another form of speeding that is often raised as a defense by other parties to an accident.? For example, in heavy rain, it might not be considered reasonable or safe to go as fast as the posted speed limit would allow.? A personal injury accident under those circumstances could be partially blamed on your own choice to drive too fast.

3.???? Running a red light.

In a motor vehicle accident, going through a red light is almost always going to prevent you from receiving full compensation for personal injury damages.? This is true, even if you merely turned right on red in a zone where it is allowed, because you have a duty to move forward only when the way is clear.? These days, Tampa?s red-light camera program or a similar new St. Petersburg program may provide a defendant with a nice snapshot of your red-light violation, and worse yet, you could wind up being liable for personal injury or death that you caused in the accident, like this December 23, 2012, accident, in which a woman was killed by a driver running a red light.

Other common mistakes that may prevent or reduce your recovery in a personal injury or wrongful death case include driving with defective equipment, like malfunctioning headlights, taillights, blinkers, brakes, tires, or mirrors; sudden lane changes; or sudden stops.? You should protect yourself and your passengers from injury and protect your right to collect maximum compensation in a vehicular accident case by always ensuring that your car is properly equipped, following traffic laws, and ensuring that all passengers use proper seatbelts and child restraints in your vehicle.

If you or someone you love is dealing with personal injury or wrongful death caused by an auto accident, take action to protect your right to collect full compensation for damages like lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of services, loss of companionship, or others.? Seek legal advice from an experienced personal injury attorney who knows how to present your best claim for compensation and fight claims of comparative fault.
